Get a Head Start for Your Keiki to Enter Kindergarten Ready to Learn

Are you looking for a preschool for your keiki? The Child & Family Service (CFS) Head Start program offers high quality preschool to eligible children, ages 3 – 5, on Kaua’i Island.

Using a researched based curriculum, CFS Head Start helps your children to grow mentally, socially, emotionally and physically. We know that parents are the first and most important teachers of your children. Our teachers welcome your involvement in Head Start activities, and will work as partners with you to help your child progress.

Head Start staff members offer your child love, acceptance, understanding, and the opportunity to learn and to experience success. Through socializing with others, helping to solve problems, and improving listening and speaking skills, children gain the confidence and skills for a great start in kindergarten. Head Start staff partner with you to ensure your child is on track for healthy development and ready for learning by performing vision and hearing tests, ensuring access to regular health, nutrition and dental care and assisting in tracking immunizations. Our on-staff nurse is available to assist with coordinating your child’s health care needs. Our mental health professional is also a valuable resource for social and emotional development.

CFS also offers Early Head Start. Through our island wide home-based program, Early Head Start helps expectant mothers through the pregnancy process AND provides educational services for children from birth to three years old.

Early Head Start is designed to assist parents to help their children reach school readiness goals that are important to each individual family. Once a week, our Early Head Start Home Visitor will visit you and together, you’ll plan activities for you to do with your child, during the home visit and throughout the week. We will become partners in helping your child grow and learn.

In addition, Early Head Start provides prenatal support for pregnant women. During your pregnancy, a Home Visitor will visit and together, you will develop a birthing plan and aid in addressing health needs to ensure a healthy delivery.

Every Head Start and Early Head Start family will also have a Family Advocate to assist in setting and achieving goals which strengthens each individual family. They are committed to making your experience a positive one and provide you with the tools you’ll need to accomplish your dreams.
